One of the most unusual sights you’ve probably never noticed, is the tiny rooftop house that sits on top of the building on Houston and 1st Avenue.

Some say it was a mini beach house that the owner had built, complete with a yard full of sand and beach chairs. Others say the wooden structure is actually a tiny guest quarters that the owner built and sits on top of the building and is only accessible by stairs inside. Although it looks separate from the rest of the townhouse, it’s more like an additional floor. Who know what the real story is, but its very cool if you can spot it.

Apparently there are eight of these rooftop houses in New York. The challenge is to try and find them all. Challenge accepted.
