McGees isn’t just a pub in midtown Manhattan, its the pub that “How I met your Mother” is based on! So get out your red cowboy boots, your yellow umbrella, your blue french horn or just simply suit up!
When Craig Thomas and Carter Bays were writers in New York for “The Late Show with David Letterman”, they created their hit TV series “How I met your Mother” while drinking at McGees pub. And it was here that became the inspiration behind the characters favourite bar, McLarens.
When you step inside, you may be slightly disappointed that it isn’t an exact replica of McLarens. It actually doesn’t look anything like it. But there are reminders all over that this is the “How I met your Mother” bar. From the pics of the cast hanging on the walls, to the “Legen – wait for it – dary” tshirts to the themed cocktail menu. You can choose from drinks like The Naked Man, The Pineapple Incident, Tantrum, Marshmallow, Slutty Pumpkin and the ultimate…Robin Sparkles made with Canadian whisky.
Since there really isn’t a Hoser Hut in New York and Puzzles still doesn’t exist, McGees is a good second choice. Go for a few pints, maybe you’ll find a copy of the Bro Code, maybe if you’re lucky they’ll play “Lets go to the Mall” and maybe if you’re really, really lucky, you’ll wake up the next morning with a hangover and a pineapple on your night stand.
