Katz’s Deli is famous for two things, it’s deli sandwiches and Meg Ryan’s famous orgasm scene from “When Harry Met Sally”. Let the meat orgasm begin.
A New York City institution since 1888, Katz’s Deli on the corner of Ludlow and East Houston streets is the oldest and one of the most beloved delicatessen in America. Usually packed with tourists, I’ve avoided this place as there is usually a line out the door. So I came on a Tuesday at 3pm to avoid the crowds. And this place is actually a lot bigger than you think, but so confusing. As soon as you walk in, a door attendant hands you a ticket without explaining why. This ends up being your receipt so hang onto it for dear life or you’ll pay a $50 surcharge if you lose it.
Next you’ll see a walk up counter where you can order take out and an area where you can eat-in, but there’s also a full service area as well. Confused, I opted for table service but as it was so slow, I ended up at the counter as it’s way faster and cheaper to just order it yourself. I ordered my good ‘ol faithful pastrami on rye. As a bonus they carve you hunks of meat to try, and in all honesty, if I’d known they were going to give me this free meat, I probably would have just tried it and ran. But I took my obscene amount of meat and sat down. Since I was by myself, it wasn’t under the hanging sign that said “When Harry Met Sally, hope you had what she’s had”. Sitting there munching my mountain of meat, I was desperately hoping that the two girls sitting under the sign would break out in full orgasm. Sadly they didn’t. Where’s an attention seeking lady when you need one?
